The Arra accommodation group approached us to redesign and completely rebuild the web presence for the Budget Motel Chain & the Paragon Motel Chain web sites.  We were required to implement a booking system & motel management system that catered for the rigorous demands of the accommodation industry

When we were first approached, the group was struggling with their existing website that never quite got finished and was way over budget.  So we had quite a job ahead of us to get the site designed, developed and implemented in the shortest possible time.  During the design process we spoke to many stakeholders and gathered as much information about what they did and did not want.

We needed to ascertain the following:
  • Main purpose of the site
  • Outcomes they wanted to achieve
  • Audience profile of those who will use the site including motels and visitors
  • Technical requirements like technology needed and hosting issues
  • Budget
Once that was established we moved on to designing the site architecture which is quite complex.

The site has 4 main areas:
  • Front facing pages of the main site
  • Back end functionality that supports administration & reporting requirements
  • Motel pages that allow each motel to build their own website
  • Motel management that allowed motels to manage the rooms, availability, specials, notifications and get reports.
The individual motel website functionality was provided by websemble our site building, hosting and maintaining technology.  Having this technology already built was pivotal to achieving the fast delivery of this project.  That and our amazing developers who worked very hard to build and integrate the technology.  For the front end site we had to build a custom content management system from scratch because there was none that suited the unique requirements.

We did all this in 3 months.  Since then we've made many improvements and will be retained to help the Arra accommodation group achieve their online goals for which we are very grateful.

Websemble is a site building, hosting & maintenance infrastructure that runs in a cloud environment.  It's aimed at the needs of small business, associations and the individuals where there are extreme budgetary constraints.  It tries to fill the gap between free or low cost offerings like content management systems and custom development by providing a functionally rich and professional looking site at very cheap rates.  It was our belief that this type of solution will enjoy increasing demand as websites become more commoditised.

How did we do it?
We approached the goal by applying the latest techniques and technology so the site would feel like an installed application even though it operates inside the browser & there is nothing for the end user to install.  We wrote all the necessary libraries in-house and only used third party libraries where absolutely necessary for 2 reasons. 1. there were no third party libraries available & 2. we could make them smaller and faster.  We developed everything ourselves from beginning to end like the interface design, video tutorials, all functionality, marketing...everything.
